We receive a lot of photographs that are faded and in many circumstances they are faded across their whole surface evenly. Occasionally we get photographs like this one that have been kept in an oval frame and exposed to ultra violet (UV) sunlight which, over time, fade part of the photograph.
Here we see the original photograph scanned at 600 dpi and the full extent of the fading is apparent and the outline of where the oval frame was is clearly visible.
Our graphic artist was able to bring the picture back to its full glory using Photoshop, using samples of the existing (non faded) photograph and applying this to the faded part the picture has been restored. The results are, as you can see, excellent restoring this photograph to its former glory and providing the customer with an electronic version so that they could share it with their family and friends and order a new copy to replace the old one in its oval frame. They might keep this one out of the sunlight this time though.
